Dr. Devin M. Shoquist is a physician specializing in the field of adult psychiatry with over 14 years experience, and is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Shoquist is a native of Montana, but has developed strong roots in the Puget Sound region. After graduating from Great Falls High School in 1989, he travelled by train to Seattle sight unseen to attend the University of Washington for his undergraduate education. He remained clad in the purple and gold for his medical school training, attending the University of Washington School of Medicine and graduating in 1997.
His profound sense of honor and duty to country, and obligation for educational assistance, led Dr. Shoquist to receive a commission in the United States Navy, where he served as a resident and staff psychiatrist for twelve years. During his time in the Navy he literally traveled around the world, including a Western Pacific deployment on the USS Tarawa and a tour of duty as an individual augmentee with the US Army in Iraq. He served two tours each at Naval Medical Center San Diego and Naval Hospital Bremerton, where he proudly finished his career in 2009.
Dr. Shoquist maintains a strong sense of family, loves the water and the natural beauty of Western Washington, and has a passionate interest in salmon and steelhead fishing. Needless to say, Gig Harbor has been a perfect fit!
In ancient Greece, people traveled to Delphi in search of healing and wisdom, and to put their minds and bodies at ease through exercise, potions, and prophecy.
Although Dr. Shoquist does not believe he is an oracle or the Greek god Apollo, he is dedicated to the pursuit of greater life satisfaction through better brain health. His practice philosophy emphasizes the integration of a person’s world view, life circumstances, family genetics, and lifestyle choices into developing an appropriate assessment and individual treatment plan.
Dr. Shoquist believes in conservative medication management in combination with a person’s ongoing self examination through psychotherapy (“counseling”), spiritual pursuits, and / or organized self-help programs (AA, The Compassionate Friends, etc.). With a strong conviction to the team approach, Dr. Shoquist has established and is expanding his network of like-minded professionals who believe in a responsible and holistic approach to mental health care.
